Default Stocks...

Getting started with them... how? where? what?

Can some of you stock market saavy guys give me a little insight on where and how you started?

If I can get a push in the right direction I could jump into something a little more than if I'm just skimming around the outside looking in.

I'd like to buy some stocks in something small, what kind of initial investments does one have to look forward to in doing so?

you don't need a lot to start. just make sure it's discretionary income. don't use money that you need for bills or whatnot. make sure your retirment is funded.

look for an online brokerage that will work for you. Fidelity, tdameritrade, e*trade or whatever. you wont need much. maybe $200 or so. I would start by putting money into a moneymarket account then build a practice portfolio. practice with stocks before actually buying them. learn how to research and get in at low prices.

fidelity has a 2500 minimum opening balance. so, probably not an option.

other's have much lower initial buy-ins.

i forgot about sharebuilder. $4 trades, low minimums, dollar cost averaging. but the bad part is, the trades aren't instant. good place to learn and build though.
