Well concidering current market conditions, I was wondering how everyones 401k was doing. I know I was down 8.8% last quater in earnings. It sucks but I'm not sure if I should reallocate funds or just ride it out.

mine isn't doing that great. i'm in a standard 2045 fund. i pretty much don't worry about it. i wish i could have an online brokerage account, but i can't. i suppose when i have more play money to invest, i'll get a little more into buy stocks on a regular basis. i'm pretty limited right now.

i don't have a 401k. i have a simpleIRA. (SIMPLE IRAs: Introduction)
With it, i can move my money where ever i want, just like a regular e-trade or fidelity account would allow. I made some shit choices when i first got into stocks that i'm still paying for. (SIRI, GCOM, IMH) Too late to sell... not even worth it. Just sitting on 'em. as a result, i'm down 22% Fortunately, only 50% of the money in it is mine due to company match, so technically, i'm up |

brian, you should look into putting a good chunk into one of the fidelity 2045 funds. thats what i had mine in. keep some in some retirement funds and play with the rest. I don't trust myself to manage all the stocks forever.

good. i would let 80% of mine be managed and i'll play the 20%. until i get good enough that my stocks kill it and my ego rules me. then i'll put it all into stocks and lose the farm. haha

i'm down 10% lifetime. i don't know how to track it by the year.
i did make a couple bad risks earlier this year. like my $4.80 SIRI purcahse that's been under $3 since, and my $1.84 purchase of imh that hasn't broken $1 in months

the good news is that everything i'm down on where old purchases when i didn't know what i was doing.
everything i've bought recently is up, even in this market. |
