I want to take out a personal loan but my credit isn't that great. However, I've managed to really pull everything together and am paying off my debt little by little. I've communicated with all my creditors and am on payment plans. Where can I apply for a personal loan without having to ask for a co-signer?
Try a credit union. They work for the members as they have no stockholders. I had a bk years ago, and they have worked with me. I have a checking account, credit card, and a home equity line of $100,000 after I paid them back.
Good people to work with. |

Most personal loans these days are in the form of a credit card, but even if you want a personal loan and not a credit card then There are many banks (Physical banks and on-line) which offer them. If you apply and get turned down it will hit your credit score a couple points but if you apply within a short time frame it will not affect it more as they think you are just shopping for the best rate. My advise is to find all the on-line banks and save there address. Then go to real banks and request a loan form. Then fill them out and apply for as many as you can all on the same day. One of them is bound to say yes and they will never know about the others if you do it all at once.

that depends on how much of a loan you are asking for. also you need to be more specific about your credit instead of saying it isn't that great. do you know what your credit score is?

Is it true that if you apply for a personal loan (only $2500 in my case) and get turned down (which I did - don't have 'that kind' of credit history, even though I have visa and auto loan through my credit union) that my score will go down?

not necessarily.
i wouldn't say it matters too much anyway. if you're not approved for 2500, you don't have a credit score worth a damn anyway.
