Default Are there a lot of career options now for Web designers and programmers?

I currently live in Brazil with my wife who works for the Brazilian government. I have a business management degree but I am having trouble finding work because I donīt have a lot of real world experience so I am considering getting a degree here in Web Design and programming. (I enjoy the creative side of web design and the technical skills you learn.) Here in Brazil there is a market for people with web programming skills to create and maintain websites. But, being American I have the desire to return to the US maybe in a few years so Iīm curious to know if there is a market in the US for people with degrees in web design and programming.<br />

I have a business management degree but have been programming software for over 10 years.

The degree provided very practical help for day-to-day life. My first job after college was with a financial corporation scheduling mainframe jobs.

From there I gravitated towards the code taking more and more classes and getting more and more experience.
#1 reasoning was because I liked it.
#2 reasoning was that it was the hours were flexible and I wanted a family in the future.
#3 reason was that the money was good.

You need experience. Take a dive, get wet, and see what you enjoy doing.

There are tons of jobs available for web designers and programmers. The internet is huge, and there are tons of ways to find freelance work in this area. It may be hard starting out, but after you get some experience under your belt (try making some sites for fun to show people your skills) then you will have more and more opportunities open up. People are also more willing to telecommute in this type of business, so your options open up even more in that regard.

Good luck!
