Default How could someone living in Europe get a Soccer scholarship for a US University?

I just finished with my high school and now studying International Business & Management. I currently play soccer at a 1st division team here in Holland. I'm planning to study in the U.S. next year and I'm wondering if I could get a scholarship for playing soccer, me being a foreigner and all that, is it possible?
It's definitely possible. Many overseas students play soccer here and many of them on scholarship. The only rub, you can't be a professional. I'm not sure enough of your system to know if a "1st Division" team is professional?? In other words, are you paid to play.

If not, here's basically how it's done. You have to "market" yourself to the school you pick. So first, look at colleges and universities that have what you want to study. Then check and see if they have a soccer program and if it has scholarships (not all do). Then you need to have your coach send letters of recommendation, statistics and video to the school(s) coaches.

Don't overlook small two year junior or community colleges. You can get started there and transfer to a larger university.

College sports are governed by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). This link will give you the information for International Students.

Good luck!
