If you are a US resident you do. The earned income is reported to IRS. I do not know about non-US residents.

And if you make enough, you need to pay taxes quarterly, here in the USA.

I declare all tax on my web generated income.
It may only cost me a few hundred so i figure it is better than paying the few thousand dollar fine |

I am not in US. The earnings are not automatically reported to our tax department (IRD) here in New Zealand, but I declare all earnings when I file my returns each year. I have been doing that for the last two financial years now as I started with Adsense 1.5 yrs ago. I would recommend to all who are wondering whether to pay their taxes or not to do it. As someone else said, it's much better to pay your taxes than get into trouble with the tax department.

You have to pay taxes, or else you get to go to jail.

As google pays via 1099, in the US you must claim these earnings on Schedule C of the 1040.
