Hello everyone. I have a few questions regarding business degrees and schools, namely which degree is the most attractive/viable/dynamic to future employers.

I am choosing between two different branches of one school. The first is University of Washington-Tacoma campus which offers a bachelor's in business admin and a MBA along with CPA exam classes. That's it. The school is new, but it's closer, and I can live at home.

The second school is UW- Seattle, the main campus which offers bachelor's degrees in finance, economics, management, ect. It offers an MBA program as well, and obviously this school is more prestigious.

If I wanted to get into the finacial side of business, what route would be the best choice for me? Would getting a business administration bachelor's degree gimp me? What about management?

Additional details: I'm preparing to enroll in a local community college so that I can save money and transfer to one of the listed four year schools.
It really depends on the school... for the school that I went to, the Business Admin degree was no where near as detailed as the other majors. If you are truly interested in the financial side of business, you should probably consider going to UW-Seattle so that you can take some finance classes. That way, you will know for sure if you want to major in finance, and at least have the chance to do so if it's what you really enjoy doing.
All business majors will probably require you to take the different types of business (including marketing, management, finance, and statistics). You could also take the basics first and decide later... Also, if you are going to enroll in a local community college first, maybe you should take a year to think about it before you make the final decision. Maybe by then, the Tacoma campus will have more majors available, since it's new right now. |

If you really want to go into the financial side of business, then you should major in Finance. In business admin, you will learn some of everything, but thats it. You probably wont learn alot about finance and admin is about the same as management (i think)
UW-Seattle is a pretty good school for business. It even made it on to Business Week's 2007 top business schools for undergrads list (its ranked somewhere in the 20s) |
