Mrs. Brady invests a total of $9341 in two savings accounts. One account yields 7.5% simple interest and the other 8.5% simple interest. She would like to find the amount placed in each account if a total of $726.63 in interest is received after one year. savings account x + savings account y = $9341 or x + y = 9341 7.5% earned from savings account x + 8.5% earned from savings account y = $726.63 or 7.5%x + 8.5%y = 726.63 which is the same as .075x + .085y = 726.63 |

[d] is correct formulation.
The first equation gives you y=9341 - x. Now substitute this value in the second equation, open the brackets andsolve for x. You can value of y from the first equation. Good luck. |
